Objectives and Outcomes

The action specifically addresses enhancement of staff, infrastructural and strategic capacity of Universities in implementation of quality assurance mechanisms and quality monitoring at different levels, including senior leadership, management and administrative staff. Successful implementation of the action will result in the enhancement of the institutions’ capacity in integrating the quality processes into a broader context of quality management and development through assessment of the performance of the institutions. It the result of the action the Universities should be capable to perform continuous assessments and monitoring of their performance, both concerning their services and programmes, identify gaps and difficulties to be overcome as well as to implement improvements.

The outputs of the action can be summarised as follows:

  • Enhanced managerial and administrative staff capacity in implementation of internal quality assurance and assessment techniques;
  • Sustainable structures for the implementation of quality culture strengthened/created at three East African Universities until the end of the first project year;
  • Increased innovation, efficiency, strategic thinking and ideas for self-improvement through development and adoption of a long-term strategy for quality assurance at East African HEIs;
  • Developed methodologies for quality assessment and pilot assessments at three East-African Universities implemented;
  • Increased awareness for quality culture through the development and dissemination of a Guide for the Promotion of Institutional Quality Culture in African Universities
  • Increased inter-institutional networking and sharing of best-practices for the promotion of quality culture in East Africa at regional and national levels (continuous dissemination of project outputs throughout the project’s duration);
